I recently was reading an article about the Quakers that came to America and settled there. One of the reasons they left England was that they felt it right that people should be able to read and interpret the Bible, to have access to the Bible for themselves. It was a kind of freedom they believed in. It is interesting that the roots of America are in independence, education, literacy and thought, all for a mental and emotional freedom.
